Freshdesk vs Zendesk 2026: Plans, AI Billing and the Bill at 5, 10 and 25 Agents
Freshdesk is cheaper per seat on every omnichannel plan with a published price: $29 against $55 at entry and $79 against $115 on the plans both vendors mark most popular, billed annually. The bigger difference in 2026 is how each one bills AI. Freshdesk counts every Freddy AI Agent session, at $49 per 100, whether or not the AI resolves it. Zendesk counts only verified resolutions, at $1.50 to $2.00 each, three to four times Freshdesk's unit price.
This comparison reads both vendors' own pricing pages and help centers, checked on 21 October 2026: every plan side by side, how each bills AI, channels and knowledge base, and the monthly bill for 5, 10 and 25 agents.

Freshdesk vs Zendesk at a glance
Both vendors sell two product lines, and most Zendesk vs Freshdesk comparisons pair the wrong ones. Freshdesk is Freshworks' email-first help desk; Freshdesk Omni adds live chat, WhatsApp and Instagram in one workspace, with phone as an add-on. Zendesk's Support Team plan is email ticketing; Zendesk Suite adds messaging, live chat, voice and the help center. Like for like, that means Freshdesk Omni against Zendesk Suite, and that is the pairing this page prices.

What Freshdesk and Zendesk are each built for
Freshdesk is Freshworks' customer service help desk, priced per agent and sold in two lines. Email-first Freshdesk covers email, Facebook and a basic web chat channel, and its AI agent works on email only. Freshdesk Omni puts email, an advanced web chat with live chat and topic routing, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram into one Command Center, adds phone through the Freshcaller add-on, and runs a conversational AI agent on chat and messaging.
Freddy AI sits across both lines: the AI agent billed by session, Freddy AI Copilot billed per seat on Pro and Enterprise, and Freddy AI Insights on Enterprise. The boundary this creates: the channels and the AI agent you get depend on the product line as well as the tier. Freshworks' IT service desk, Freshservice, is a separate product; our Zendesk vs Freshservice comparison covers that pairing.
Zendesk sells Support plans for email ticketing and Zendesk Suite plans for everything else, priced per agent. Suite adds messaging and live chat, social and messaging apps such as Facebook, Instagram, X and WhatsApp (some with additional fees), voice, and the help center. AI agents come with every Support and Suite plan and are billed per automated resolution, while Copilot, which drafts and summarizes for human agents, is a $50 per seat add-on.
Zendesk completed its acquisition of Forethought on 26 March 2026, and its pricing page now offers Forethought AI agents through sales. The boundary: messaging, the help center and the AI knowledge tools all start at Suite Team, so Zendesk's entry price for omnichannel support is $55 a seat, not $19.

Four things the headline prices leave out:
- The two $19 plans are different products. Freshdesk Growth includes a customer portal and knowledge base. Zendesk Support Team has no help center, live chat or messaging; those start at Suite Team. Comparisons that set Zendesk's $19 plan against Freshdesk Omni are comparing an email desk with an omnichannel one.
- Monthly billing costs more on both. Freshdesk's monthly prices run about 20% above annual. Zendesk's run 25% to 32% above, so on the most popular plans the gap per seat widens from $36 a month to $54.
- Occasional agents are priced differently. Freshdesk sells day passes: $2, $7 or $12 a day on email-first Freshdesk, and $5, $10 or $15 on Omni, by plan. Zendesk Suite Professional includes up to 100 light agents, who can read tickets and add private comments without a paid seat.
- Add-ons are billed per agent. Zendesk lists Copilot and the Workforce Engagement Bundle at $50 each and Contact Center at $83, per agent a month, billed yearly. Freshdesk lists Freddy AI Copilot at $29 ($35 monthly), connector app tasks at $80 per 5,000 and MCP actions at $15 per 1,000.
How Freshdesk and Zendesk bill for AI
Both sell two kinds of AI: an AI agent that answers customers on its own, and a copilot that helps human agents write and summarize. The copilots are per-seat add-ons. The AI agents are metered in different units, and that is where the two bills split.

Freshdesk: Freddy AI Agent sessions
- 500 sessions, once. Every plan in both lines includes 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions, and Freshworks' pricing FAQ says they are "limited to once per account". It is a trial allowance, not a monthly one.
- $49 per 100 after that, about $0.49 a session, sold in packs that expire with your billing cycle.
- A session is any interaction. On chat, everything within 24 hours of the start counts as one session; on email, a 72-hour window from the customer's first email. A conversation the AI passes to a human still uses its session.
- The channel depends on the line. Email-first Freshdesk includes only the Email AI Agent; the chat and messaging AI agent is on Freshdesk Omni.
- Copilot is separate: $29 per agent a month on annual billing, $35 monthly, sold only on Pro and Enterprise, and you can buy it for some agents rather than all.
Zendesk: verified resolutions
- Only verified outcomes bill. Since 18 May 2026, Zendesk sorts AI conversations into three tiers. Assisted escalations (the AI helped, a human finished) and contained resolutions (the customer asked for nothing more, but the conversation failed an LLM check) do not draw down your allowance. Verified resolutions, which pass that check, do.
- A small allowance comes with each seat. Zendesk's pricing page lists 5 included resolutions per agent a month on Support Team and Suite Team and 10 on Suite Professional, up to 10,000 a year. Its help center describes a dollar allowance instead for accounts on the newer resolution-tier model: $2 per seat a month on Suite Team and $5 on Suite Professional, up to $5,000 a year, with nothing carried over.
- $1.50 or $2.00 per resolution beyond it: $1.50 when you buy a committed volume in advance, $2.00 pay as you go. Overage is on by default and billed monthly; you can cap it instead.
- A conversation ends 72 hours after the first email, or 2 hours after the first message on messaging by default.
- Copilot is separate: $50 per agent a month, billed yearly, as an add-on to Suite Professional and included in Suite Enterprise + Copilot. Our Zendesk pricing breakdown covers every Zendesk add-on in detail.
Which AI line costs more?
Freshdesk's unit is cheaper, about $0.49 a session against $1.50 a verified resolution, but Zendesk bills fewer units. Here is what 1,000 AI conversations a month cost on each, counting one Freshdesk session per conversation. The units do not line up exactly (a chat session lasts 24 hours, a Zendesk messaging conversation 2 hours by default), so a long thread can count differently on each.
| Verified by Zendesk | Freshdesk Sessions | Zendesk, Committed | Zendesk, Pay As You Go |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 of 1,000 | $490 | $450 | $600 |
| 500 of 1,000 | $490 | $750 | $1,000 |
| 700 of 1,000 | $490 | $1,050 | $1,400 |
| 900 of 1,000 | $490 | $1,350 | $1,800 |
Monthly AI agent cost for 1,000 AI conversations, at list price, before any included allowance. Freshdesk: 10 packs of 100 sessions at $49. Zendesk: verified resolutions at $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go. Prices checked 21 October 2026.
Zendesk's AI line is the cheaper one only when fewer than about a third of AI conversations end as verified resolutions: 327 of 1,000 at the committed rate, 245 pay as you go. Past that point, the better the AI performs, the wider the gap in Freshdesk's favor. Freshdesk's risk runs the other way: a conversation the AI gets wrong still costs a session.
The monthly bill at 5, 10 and 25 agents
Here is the list-price bill on the plans each vendor marks most popular, Freshdesk Omni Pro and Zendesk Suite Professional, on annual billing. The AI agent handles 1,000 conversations a month at every team size, and 600 of them pass Zendesk's verification. For Zendesk's included resolutions the math uses the pricing page's figure, 10 per agent a month, the more generous of its two published allowances.
| Agents | Freshdesk Omni Pro | Zendesk Suite Professional | Difference per Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $885 | $1,400 | $6,180 |
| 10 | $1,280 | $1,900 | $7,440 |
| 25 | $2,465 | $3,400 | $11,220 |
Monthly bill at list price, annual billing, no copilot. Freshdesk: seats at $79 plus 10 session packs at $49. Zendesk: seats at $115 plus 600 verified resolutions, less 10 included per agent, at $1.50. Prices checked 21 October 2026.
- Seats drive both bills as teams grow. At 25 agents, seats are about 80% of the Freshdesk total and 85% of the Zendesk total, so both bills grow with headcount and the AI line sits on top.
- Add a copilot for every seat and the gap grows: $29 a seat on Freshdesk, $50 on Zendesk, or $725 against $1,250 a month at 25 agents.
- Pay monthly and the seats alone cost $950 on Omni Pro against $1,490 on Suite Professional for 10 agents.
- On the entry omnichannel plans, Omni Growth at $29 and Suite Team at $55, 10 agents cost $290 against $550 a month before AI.
- If Zendesk's dollar allowance applies to your account, $5 per Suite Professional seat instead of 10 resolutions, the Zendesk totals rise by $50, $100 and $250 at 5, 10 and 25 agents.
Channels: where customers reach each one
Email-first Freshdesk takes email, Facebook, the customer portal and ticket forms, plus a basic web chat channel tied to the knowledge base. Freshdesk Omni adds the advanced web chat with live chat and topic routing, WhatsApp and Instagram, all in one Command Center, with phone through the Freshcaller add-on. Omni Pro and Enterprise can also bring their own messaging channel or phone carrier through the Freshworks Marketplace.
Zendesk Support Team takes email, with unlimited support addresses, and a web widget for submitting tickets. Zendesk Suite adds messaging and live chat on the web and in mobile apps, social and messaging apps including Facebook, Instagram, X, WhatsApp, Slack, WeChat and LINE, and voice with calls billed per minute. Text messaging is an add-on on Suite Team and Suite Professional, and Contact Center is an $83 per agent add-on for more complex phone operations.
Knowledge base and self-service
Freshdesk includes a customer portal and knowledge base on every plan in both lines, and the same knowledge base feeds its AI agent. Pro adds multilingual articles, portal customization, community forums and article versioning; Enterprise adds an approval workflow before articles publish and nested folders for larger libraries.
Zendesk starts its help center at Suite Team, with one help center in one default language. Suite Professional allows up to five help centers for separate brands, 40+ languages and community forums. Both Suite plans can generate a starting knowledge base from your ticket history and pull in external sources through connectors. Support Team has no help center at all.
Integrations, security and admin
Freshdesk connects to Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Shopify, Mailchimp and, by Freshworks' count, about 1,200 other apps. Its connector apps run on metered tasks at $80 per 5,000, and MCP actions are included at 1,200, 6,000 or 12,000 a year by plan, then $15 per 1,000. SAML single sign-on and role-based access come on every plan; audit logs, IP allowlisting and a sandbox are Enterprise features.
Zendesk lists 1,000+ prebuilt apps and integrations in the Zendesk Marketplace, and every plan includes API access, single sign-on through SAML or JWT, two-factor authentication and IP restrictions. Custom agent roles and audit logs are not included up to Suite Professional, where a sandbox is an add-on; Suite Enterprise adds custom agent roles and a sandbox environment.
Trials and the free option
Freshdesk starts every sign-up on a 14-day trial of its Enterprise plan. The free plan is gone from the pricing page; what remains is the Free program, which gives up to 2 agents free for 6 months on email-first Freshdesk only, not Freshdesk Omni. A third agent or use past six months needs a paid plan, and an account that upgrades cannot switch back.
Zendesk has no free plan. Its 14-day trial runs on Suite Professional with Copilot included, and Zendesk for Startups gives early-stage companies a 6-month trial of the Suite for up to 50 agents.
The agent-first option: Enjo Platform
Freshdesk and Zendesk price the same operating model: a seat for every person who works the queue, with AI metered on top. Choosing between them decides which version of that model costs less at your volume. It does not change the shape. Every new agent adds $79 or $115 a month before any AI, and the AI line grows with every conversation the AI handles.
Enjo Platform is built the other way round. Enjo, the AI Support Agent, is configured first and resolves the requests it can complete, including actions in connected systems through AI Actions. Every answer is grounded in your knowledge with a citation, inside Guardrails and an audit trail. When it cannot resolve a request, it escalates into Enjo Inbox, where your team gets the full conversation, account context and suggested next steps. Enjo learns from how your team responds, and one knowledge index serves Enjo, Inbox and Enjo Help Center, so what the agent says is what your team sees and what requesters find. At Aurora, Enjo resolves 63% of requests autonomously.
Pricing follows the same order. Enjo's published plans charge for AI replies and include unlimited human agent seats: Free at $0 with 200 AI replies a month, Starter at $95 with 1,000 and Standard at $295 with 3,000. The Enjo pricing page lists what each plan adds. Here is the same 1,000 AI conversations a month:
| Agents | Freshdesk Omni Pro | Zendesk Suite Professional | Enjo Platform Standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $885 | $1,400 | $295 |
| 10 | $1,280 | $1,900 | $295 |
| 25 | $2,465 | $3,400 | $295 |
The same 1,000 AI conversations a month. Enjo counts every AI reply, including replies in conversations that escalate; this assumes three per conversation, 3,000 a month, which Standard includes, with unlimited human agent seats. Enjo prices from enjo.ai/pricing, 21 October 2026.
The units differ again, so set the reply count from your own transcripts. What does not move is the seat line, because there is none. Requesters reach Enjo in Slack, Microsoft Teams, website chat, the Help Center portal and Slack Connect shared channels.
Enjo Platform is built agent-first. The AI Support Agent is configured before any queue exists, and Inbox is the helpdesk for escalations and human collaboration rather than the primary work surface. Teams that want a ticket queue first with AI attached later are describing the legacy model, which is the point rather than a limit.
Three checks to run on your own ticket history
Run these on last month's tickets before you compare quotes from either vendor.

- Count the conversations an AI agent could have answered, then how many it could have finished without a human. The first number is roughly your Freshdesk session count; the second is roughly your Zendesk verified count. Multiply each by its rate before you look at seat prices.
- Count who works tickets every day and who only drops in. Full seats drive both bills. Occasional helpers can use Freshdesk day passes or Zendesk light agents on Suite Professional, and that split changes which plan costs less.
- List the channels your requests actually arrive on. If it is mostly email, compare email-first Freshdesk with Zendesk Support Team. If it is chat, WhatsApp or social, compare Freshdesk Omni with Zendesk Suite, because those channels are not on the cheaper plans.
Run the same checks against Enjo Platform and the first count sets the whole bill. Seats are unlimited on every published plan, so the second count stops mattering, and the third comes down to whether your requests arrive in Slack, Microsoft Teams, website chat, the Help Center portal or Slack Connect shared channels.
Run the agent first, with every seat included
Enjo Platform's Free plan includes 200 AI replies a month, Inbox, Help Center, Insights and unlimited human agent seats. When the replies run out, requests escalate to your team in Inbox, so nothing is dropped.

Freshdesk vs Zendesk: frequently asked questions
Is Freshdesk cheaper than Zendesk?
Yes, per seat on every omnichannel plan with a published price. On annual billing, Freshdesk Omni costs $29, $79 and $119 a seat against $55 and $115 for Zendesk Suite Team and Suite Professional (Suite Enterprise is a sales quote). The email-only plans both start at $19. On AI, Zendesk can cost less only when fewer than about a third of AI conversations end as verified resolutions.
Does Freshdesk still have a free plan?
Not on its pricing page. Freshdesk's Free program gives up to 2 agents free for 6 months on email-first Freshdesk, not Freshdesk Omni; a third agent or use past six months needs a paid plan, and an account that upgrades cannot switch back. New sign-ups get a 14-day trial of the Enterprise plan.
Does Zendesk have a free plan?
No. Zendesk offers a 14-day trial of Suite Professional with Copilot included, and early-stage startups can apply for a 6-month trial of the Zendesk Suite for up to 50 agents.
How does Zendesk charge for AI agents?
Per verified resolution. AI agents come with every Support and Suite plan, and since 18 May 2026 only conversations that pass an LLM check of the transcript count. Each plan includes a small allowance; beyond it, a resolution costs $1.50 bought in advance or $2.00 pay as you go, and overage is billed monthly unless you cap it.
What is a session in Freddy AI Agent?
A session is one interaction between a customer and Freshdesk's AI agent: everything within 24 hours on chat, or a 72-hour window from the first email. Every plan includes 500 sessions once per account, and more cost $49 per 100, whether or not the AI resolves the conversation.
What are the disadvantages of Freshdesk?
The ones that show up in the bill: live chat, WhatsApp and Instagram need Freshdesk Omni rather than email-first Freshdesk, phone is a Freshcaller add-on, Freddy AI Copilot is only sold on Pro and Enterprise, the 500 free AI sessions are a one-time allowance, and every session is billed whether or not the AI resolves it.
Is Freshdesk a CRM?
No. Freshdesk is Freshworks' customer service help desk for ticketing, channels and self-service. Freshworks sells its CRM as a separate product, Freshsales.
